Writing # 191
It is somewhat difficult to fathom what others think, but my opinion regarding the given topic is adamant. I believe that a teacher can be well-liked and effective in student’s learning.
Above all, teachers with great teaching skills are popular to students because they want to acquire an outcompeting advantage over other students in a college entrance examination. Nowadays, students face fierce competition in college admissions since there are too many candidates with not so much quota for the college available. Consequently, it has become extremely difficult to receive admission from popular universities, such as Harvard, MIT, Berkeley, and so on. Thus, teachers effective in student’s learning for a college entrance exam are inclined to be sought after by students who want to matriculate at a popular university.
Besides, many students will follow teachers who have great teaching abilities since they can have a comprehensive understanding of students and usher students into the right direction by lecturing them precious moral lessons and the true value of life. Some students are immature to have a thorough understanding of life and are likely to become incapable of coping with problems at pivotal moments of their lives. As such time, proficient teachers offer advice for mental maturation and enlighten them about important values so that they can become a better person. Then, students will appreciate the couching of the teachers and sincerely like them.
For example, my oldest brother, John, has a thorough understanding of mathematics and the know-how to teach students effectively, but he was not famous in his school. His students were not interested in mathematics, so got distracted easily, procrastinated, and acted on impulse in his class. They were lazy, selfish, and passive in learning. However, he did not give up his students and attract them talking about college life. They have changed little by little after they notice that they were able to matriculate at a university if they follow John’s teaching. They realized that John’s lecture helped him increase their SAT score as well as the satisfaction of life, while their laziness could negatively affect them both. Naturally, they became more prompt with time, fully focused on John’s lecture, and even encouraged one another to be more responsible in a class. They become motivated to maintain good behavior by feeling a sense of accomplishment in the study. As a result, many of his students were able to get into college with a scholarship. Also, John has become so popular that his class is always full of students who want to enter a university.
As explicitly and logically elaborated above, I disagree with the statement that a teacher cannot be popular and effective in student’s learning at the same time, firmly believing that a teacher with proficient teaching skills can be famous to students.
